Trinity County High School Senior $4000 Scholarship

VFW Post 6899 and Ladies Auxiliary of Trinity County, Texas pursues the dual mission of 

• Supporting our students of Trinity County, Texas in their efforts to pursue education excellence.
• Providing a scholarship to meet the financial needs of our students of Trinity County.

We are committed and dedicated to our young students from their freshman year through their senior year. 

Scholarships are awards to students who excel in academic areas, activities or athletics or who have financial need. 

• One scholarship grant is awarded to graduating seniors from Trinity, Groveton, Centerville, Apple Springs High Schools and other private schools each year.
• $4000.00 is awarded each year directly to the student with the following requirements.

    1.       $500.00 each semester for eight consecutive semesters.
2.        Full-time student – 12 semester hours.
3.        Maintain a 2.4 GPA.
4.        After each semester the recipient must provide an official copy of
           their college grades to the  scholarship committee.  Failure to do
           this will result in forfeiture of their scholarship.
5.        Maintain his/her address to the scholarship committee. 

• The scholarship grant is based on the judgment of the “scholarship committee” and availability of funds.
• A student who experiences a “hardship” can request an appearance before the scholarship committee and state their case.  A ruling will be made within three working days.

Application Process 

•  Fill out a VFW Application form.

• A 300-word essay on a relative that was in the military; his experiences, military “hot spots” of the world during his time of service, and what you think he contributed to his country.
• Copy of high school transcript.
• Teacher recommendation.

How and When to Apply? 

• The application period begins January 1 of each year for award consideration for the upcoming fall academic year.
• Submit completed applications to “Scholarship Committee”, VFW Post 6899, P.O. Box 883, Trinity, TX 75862, on or before May 1^st of each year.
• Applications received after May 1^st will not be considered.
• Application packets are available from your “School Guidance Counselor” in each school district, download application from this website or by writing to the VFW at the above address.

 How is the scholarship award determined? 

The members of the VFW Post 6899 and Ladies Auxiliary, Trinity, Texas determines the award.  The members elect a “Scholarship Committee” and it is their function to select the final recipient.  The scholarship committee will judge on the following criteria: 

• Scholastic Ability……………….....30
• Leadership and Citizenship ……10
• Financial Need……………....…..…15
• Personal Motivation………....…..15
• Essay…………………….............…30

The above categories are weighed and based on a point value system 1 to 100 points. A minimum of 75 points is required for consideration of local scholarship.

Notification/Presentation 

Final selection will be made on or about May 15^th and the awardee will be notified by mail, email and/or phone call. Awards ceremony will be held at our regular meeting, first Tuesday in June.
